Duty-Free Allowances by Country When Visiting Grand Cayman

When travelling to the Grand Cayman, whether it be for business or for pleasure, you will want to take advantage of the outstanding duty-free shopping opportunities available. From quality cosmetics and perfume, to luxury watches and jewelry, crystal and china home-goods and so much more, the selection of stunning duty-free products is abundant in the Cayman Islands.

Depending on your home country, there are certain custom and duty-free limitations when returning home after visiting the Grand Cayman. We’ve outlined some guidelines based on visitor’s home countries.

*Please note, the information provided is based on current duty-free and customs allowances by country at the time of publishing. For information regarding customs requirements for your home country, please contact your country’s customs agency.

Visitors from the United States

For US citizens visiting Grand Cayman and who have been away for a minimum of 48 hours (only once every 30 days), are entitled to bring back up to $800 worth of merchandise duty-free. Typically, you will be charged a 4% duty rate on additional $1000 US goods. It is recommended to keep your receipts on hand when returning to the US.

Visitors from Canada

Canadian citizens visiting the Grand Cayman receive a CA$750 exemption. This exemption can be used once annually and is only applicable if the resident has been absent for a minimum of 7 days. Canadians may bring back the following items upon returning to Canada:

  • 1 duty-free carton of cigarettes
  • 1 can of tobacco
  • 40 ounces of liquor
  • 50 cigars (if the resident meets the minimum age requirement for their province of which you will be returning to.)

Visitors from the U.K.

Residents from the U.K. may bring back up to £145 worth of goods upon returning to the U.K. This includes items such as gifts and souvenirs. U.K. residents may also bring back the following items after visiting Grand Cayman:

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 50 cigars
  • 250 grams of tobacco
  • 4 Litres of still wine
  • 1 litre of spirits or liqueurs
  • 2 litres of fortified wine or sparkling wine
  • 60 cubic centimetres of perfume
  • 250 cubic centimetres of eau de toilette

Tobacco and alcohol allowances are only applicable to U.K. residents over the age of 17.

Visitors from Australia

Adult Australian citizens over the age of 18 visiting the Grand Cayman have a duty-free allowance of A$900. For those under the age of 18 years of age, they have a duty-free allowance of A$450. It should also be noted that visitors returning to Australia after visiting Grand Cayman may be required to complete B263 if they are returning with valuables such as cameras.

Australian citizens over the age of 18 may bring back the following upon returning to Australia after visiting the Grand Cayman:

  • 250 cigarettes
  • 250 grams of tobacco (loose)
  • 2.25 litres of alcohol

Visitors from New Zealand

New Zealand citizens visiting the Grand Cayman have a duty-free allowance of up to NZ$700. Citizens over the age of 17 years of age of 17 may return with:

  • 200 cigarettes
  • 50 cigars
  • 250 grams of tobacco

Note, New Zealand citizens may choose to bring back a combination of the above 3, if their combined totals do not exceed 250 g

  • 4-5 litres of wine and beer or 1.125 litres of liquor

There are no import or export restrictions on New Zealand currency. New Zealand citizens should complete a certificate of export when travelling with valuable, so they may return with the items without having to pay additional duty fees.
